Our Journey...The Presque Isle Wesleyan Church on Wilson Street was formed in 1968 when several like minded groups merged to form the Wesleyan Denomination. Later, under the leadership of Rev. Ken Gorvette, the church grew until it could no longer be contained at this location. A number of visionary people purchased a piece of land that would allow for a new building to be constructed.
On July 23rd of 1978 Rev. Conard Stairs assumed his pastorate for the next part of the churches journey. On September 10th, 1978, the last service was held at the Wilson Street location. Rev. Conard Stairs then transitioned the church to its present location, and served as Sr. Pastor of the church until 1983. That same year, Rev. John (Jack) Fancy was hired, and he served as the Sr. Pastor until 1986. The church, meanwhile continued to experience growth.
Then, in 1986, the church was introduced to a young pastor named Rev. Rick Kavanaugh. This was the beginning of a 22 year journey which saw a tremendous amount of growth. On Sunday, March 14th, 2000, the church dedicated a brand new auditorium to the Lord. In 2008, Rev. Kavanaugh responded to God's call to a new ministry.
Over the next year, the church would spend much time in prayer seeking whom the Lord would call next. Finally, in 2009, Rev. Rupert (Bud) Fancy responded to Gods call and now serves as the Sr. Pastor of this ministry. Like those before him, it is his desire to see Presque Isle and the surrounding towns won for Christ and to see people’s hearts transformed for the kingdom of God. With this in mind, we are moving ahead with excitement at what God is doing through the local church.
